ok this Nebuchadnezzar is one messed up dude. We saw before that he had no hesitation about killing off all the wise men in the land --- because they couldn't interpret a dream that he hadn't told them about. Now he threatens to toast any who don't bow down before his golden idol. when shad- mesh - and abed refuse to bow dow, he grows even MORE furious, ordering the furnace to burn 7 times hotter than normal. Even the guards who chuck the 3 in are themselves overcome by the flames. Finally, God saves the 3 from the fire and they emerge unscathed. You'd think that Nebuchadnezzar would learn BUT this is his response [paraphrased slightly] 'let any who speak out against the God of S.M. and A. be cut into pieces and his house burnt to rubble' grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.
