Joshua 9
So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the LORD. Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.
This story is interesting in that Joshua and the Israel were tricked because they failed to consult with God, and as a consequence, they were forced to uphold a promise they might have otherwise not wanted to keep. They relied on their imperfect, human judgement and made a big mistake.
Thinking about my own life, I often find it difficult to consult with God about everything, because I often make the assumption that there are some things I can decide for myself. Or there are cases where I want to consult God, but I'm in such a hurry to make a decision that I don't really consider that sometimes, God's answer is delayed for a reason - He wants me to wait.
"Always Consult With God" seems like such a simple principle, but yeah... it's still hard to apply.
