Joshua 18-19
In these two chapters, the final 7 tribes get their allotment of land. The method by which they did it - surveying the portions and then casting lots - struck as me as interesting. My mental picture is Joshua rolling craps with all the Israelite elders, but apparently nobody knows the exact details of "casting lots" except there are many times in the Old Testament where it is used to interpret God's will in a difficult situation.
I found an interesting page about Joshua 18 and casting lots right here.
Anyways, the passage made me think a lot about how I often wish that there were easier ways for me to interpret God's will in my life for the decisions I have to make. While I wish I had a pair of "holy dice" to roll for God's will, I guess I'm learning that part of faith is trusting that God will speak to me clearly through prayer, Scripture, the advice of Godly people, and circumstances.
